Flyers bring on Wayne Simmonds in hockey operations role

Wayne Simmonds is returning to Philadelphia — but this time off the ice.

The Flyers announced several additions to their hockey operations staff on Friday, including Simmonds as a community relations ambassador and hockey operations consultant.

Simmonds spent eight of his 15 seasons in the NHL with the Flyers, recording 378 points (203 goals and 175 assists) and 786 penalty minutes across 584 games.

A native of Scarborough, Ont., Simmonds also spent time with the Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs. Over 1,037 regular-season games, he tallied 526 points (263 goals and 263 assists) and added 22 more points in 53 playoff games.

After last playing during the 2022-23 season with the Leafs, Simmonds announced his retirement from professional hockey on March 18. The Flyers signed him to a one-day contract and honoured his career in a pre-game ceremony on April 13.

The new role marks Simmonds' first front-office job.
